Westfalia Separator® directdrive∞ for permanent availability

GEA Westfalia Separator at drinktec 2009

At the drinktec, GEA Westfalia Separator has presented three new developments or improvements to existing products for the dairy industry. The emphasis was placed on the new integrated direct drive Westfalia Separator® directdrive∞, a drive concept for separators which has been installed for the first time in the world in practice in the separator CSI 500 for removing bacteria from milk. The new drive concept also comprises a premium service package with Westfalia Separator® wewatch®, with which the direct drive will be able to take full advantage of its benefits. With online condition monitoring, Westfalia Separator® wewatch®,  enables maintenance activities to be planned in a structured manner and unwanted interruptions to be avoided.

With this system of the integrated direct drive Westfalia Separator® directdrive∞ GEA Westfalia Separator has found the ultimate solution and has made it available to dairy technology as the first user group. The drive is housed directly underneath the bowl in the frame. The separator CSI 500 with integrated direct drive opens up entirely new worlds to the dairy industry. The main advantages of the innovation are the improved efficiency with higher reliability and availability compared with gear-driven machines, flat belt machines and conventional direct drive, as well as a lower noise level and lower space requirement. Overall therefore, the users can benefit from reduced operating and energy costs. In the dairy, the CSI 500 is used for bacteria removal, separation and clarification of milk and whey for processing quantities in excess of 35,000 litres per hour. GEA Westfalia Separator is now gradually introducing the integrated direct drive.

Cold milk process for the medium performance range
In the field of cold milk separation, the focus is on energy saving, lower operating costs and higher protein quality. With the Westfalia Separator® procool system, GEA Westfalia Separator is now providing the market with extremely successful machines which cover a wide performance range. The separator types used for this purpose are characterised by very high performance and separating efficiency. They are the first fully-hermetic cold milk centrifuges on the market which operate with a belt drive and not with a gear. Customer acceptance of the concept is so high that there is demand for a smaller machine. GEA Westfalia Separator has therefore extended its product portfolio to include a further cold milk machine in the medium and lower performance range. This also continues the concept of success with optimum positioning of the rising channels and without any compromise being made with regard to the drive.

Higher income with Westfalia Separator® proplus
The Westfalia Separator Westfalia Separator® proplus process, which enjoys high levels of acceptance in practice, concentrates on the protein in the solid. This approach provides dairies with high separating efficiency as well as additional volumes of skim milk and thus higher income. Westfalia Separator® proplus provides tangible benefits, and potential savings of up to EUR 60,000 per annum are possible. In certain cases, depending on the price situation, even greater savings are possible. Most new milk separators for separation and bacteria removal nowadays leave the plant in Oelde with the integrated Westfalia Separator® proplus system. Since the market launch, many older machines have also been retrofitted with a Westfalia Separator® proplus Retrofit kit.
