In 2005, the Danish Carlsberg Group was the first global player to decide to install the PROFI® filtration system from GEA Westfalia Separator/Pall Food & Beverage. this means a move into a new dimension for the innovative separator/membrane system. Meanwhile, a total of 16 PROFI® installations are convincing around the globe which filter a total volume of approx. 34 million hl per year.
A number of current examples: at the beginning of 2007, two PROFI® lines each with a capacity of 400 hl/h went on stream in a US American brewery. A third line to boost capacity is in preparation. At the end of 2007 a further 450 hl/h installation ensured kieselguhr operation in a Japanese brewery, followed by a second 450 hl/h unit at the beginning of 2009. Carlsberg itself was so satisfied with the plant performance that it placed an additional order for a 400 hl/h PROFI® line for a subsidiary brewery in Finland. A Romanian Group also opted for dispensing with kieselguhr by purchasing a 300 hl/h installation for its new Greenfield brewery and two brewing operations in Australia were simultaneously equipped with two 300 hl/h installations, making a total of four 300 hl/h installations. This year, Brazil follows with the order of the next two large installations with 300 and 450 hl/h. And after their commissioning at the latest, most beer world-wide will be membrane-filtered with PROFI®
As a pioneer in the field of beer clarification, GEA Westfalia Separator can look back on 100 years of beer separation in 2009. The first separator was installed in a brewery in Vienna in 1909 by the predecessor firm of GEA Westfalia Separator. 100 years of beer separation means a 100 year successful track record. A success story which was not written by chance. It is rather the result of a constant further development of GEA Westfalia Separator. Today, centrifugal separation technology is the first choice in more and more brewery applications.
A total volume of approx. 34 million hl per year are currently filtered with PROFI® installations world-wide.
