With the Westfalia Separator® SludgeMaster® 300, GEA Westfalia Separator Group offers a system which reduces the initial sludge volume by at least 90 percent

GEA Westfalia Separator Group has supplied the fuel and lubricating oil processing facilities and the sludge treatment facilities for the latest premium cruise liner Celebrity Silhouette.
On 21 July 2011, the Celebrity Silhouette, the latest addition of Celebrity Cruises, was officially christened in Hamburg. Also on board: The latest fuel and lubricating oil processing and sludge treatment facilities of GEA Westfalia Separator Group. In line with the premium message and innovative design of the cruise liner, Celebrity Cruises has also placed its trust in first-class engineering "Made in Germany" in the engine room. The Celebrity Silhouette is 319 metres long, and 37 metres wide, and spoils its 2,886 passengers with many attractions such as a genuine lawn, numerous fine restaurants or the unique design. For instance, the centre point of the stylish main restaurant is formed by the double-decker wine tower of the designer Tihany, with more than 480 different wines in an impressive atmosphere. With a tonnage of 122,000 GRT, the Celebrity Silhouette was built at the Meyer yard in Papenburg, which this year will be celebrating its 25-year anniversary in building cruise liners.
Reliable supply for marine engines
In order to ensure reliable fuel supply to the drive systems, a Westfalia Separator® centripack with four OSD 60 separators was installed. The concept of the centripack provides the opportunity of combining all necessary separators into a single unit, supplying this unit to the yard with all pipe work and control modules in place, which very much simplifies the installation process. An installed Westfalia Separator® ViscoBoosterUnit ensures optimum adjustment of the viscosity, temperature and pressure of the engine oil to the requirements of the manufacturer. A further centripack with four OSD 35 separators and one OSD 6 is used to continuously remove water and other contaminants from the lubricating oil. The trend towards using high-viscosity fuel and lubricating oils means that the volume of sludge is increasing. With the SludgeMaster® system, GEA Westfalia Separator Group has found a convincing solution to efficiently process sludges which contain oil and water and to reduce the sludge volume by up to 95 percent. This protects the eco system of the oceans and dramatically reduces disposal costs. A SludgeMaster® 300 is used for this purposes on the Celebrity Silhouette.
The Celebrity Cruises will write history. It is the fourth of a total of five planned vessels in the Solstice class built in Papenburg, and is the first vessel of its class which has been christened in Germany - a clear commitment to the German cruise liner market. The Celebrity Cruises fleet currently comprises ten vessels. Overall, a total of USD 3.7 billion is being invested in building new vessels of the Solstice class to be built at the Meyer yard in Papenburg. The construction of the five vessels between 2008 and 2012 is the largest ever investment volume of this type for a single cruise liner brand.
