100 years beer separation, 25 years Westfalia Separator hydrostop

GEA Westfalia Separator celebrates two milestones in one in 2009

The separator GSC 200 with the tried-and-tested Westfalia Separator hydrostop system was developed in 2008 particularly for green beer and wort clarification, for beer recovery and for must and wine clarification.

100 years ago, the first separator was installed in a brewery in Vienna for beer clarification – built by the firm Ramesohl & Schmidt, which later became GEA Westfalia Separator. Since this time, the Oelde company with its cutting-edge innovations has always pushed forward the limits of what is technically feasible. One of the most important milestones of the recent past is likewise celebrating its anniversary in 2009 – the Westfalia Separator hydrostop ejection system first made its mark on the brewing industry 25 years ago.

The first Westfalia Separator hydrostop separator – a clarifier type SC 35 – was delivered to the Bavik brewery in Bavikvove, Belgium in 1984. The next major step followed in 1990: The SC 120 was the first machine capable of performing ejections every 45 seconds. This made it possible to realize very high capacities also in hot operations in the brew house, for example for hot trub removal.

In the mid-nineties, a completely new machine line was launched with, for instance, the models GSC 45, GSC 95 and GSC 150. In 2008, this culminated in the two top-of-the-line models GSC 200 and GSC 250, which once again represented an advance into a new dimension. So now Westfalia Separator hydrostop separators with a capacity range of 50 hl/h to 800 hl/h are in the product line of GEA Westfalia Separator for beer clarification with maximum yields and high solid concentrations.

100 years of beer separation means a 100 year successful track record. A success story which was not written by chance. It is rather the result of a constant further development of GEA Westfalia Separator. Today, centrifugal separation technology is the first choice in more and more brewery applications.
