The solid-wall bowl (7) has a cylindrical section for good separation and clarification of the liquid or classification of the solids and a conical section for dewatering the solids or concentration of the precipitated coarse particles. The product is fed info the decanter through the feed (9) and is conveyed to the separating / classifying chamber (6) through the distributor (5). The liquid level can be adjusted by regulating plates (8). The coarse solid particles are forced to the wall of the bowl by the centrifugal force. The scroll (4) conveys the precipitated solids particles to the solids discharge (10). The clarified liquid or the classified fine particles are discharged from the separating chamber via replaceable regulating plate (8).

The drive motor (1) for the bowl is fixed on the decanter frame. The bowl (7) is driven by a 3-phase AC motor by means of a frequency inverter. The start-up current is minimised by the VFD. The bowl speed can be changed by means of the VFD while the bowl is running.
The drive motor for the scroll (2) is fixed on the decanter frame. The scroll (4) is driven by a 3-phase AC motor via an elastic coupling by means of a frequency inverter. The start-up current is minimised by the VFD. The scroll speed can be changed by means of the VFD while the machine is running.
This means that the regulating capabilities enable an easy adjustment and optimum transportation of the solids. The scroll speed is virtually independent of the bowl speed. Simultaneously, this 2-motor drive system allows for a continuous measurement and monitoring of the scroll torque. This feature is used to prevent the machine from filling up with solids.
