Efficient, future-proof ballast water treatment with GEA Westfalia Separator BallastMaster

In the context of Westfalia Separator® seaprotectsolutions, the BallastMaster system performs the task of treating ballast water so that it can be pumped back into the sea containing no more than 10 living organisms of maximum size 40 microns per cubic metre in line with IMO guidelines.

In order to guarantee that a shipowner always has optimized operating costs and the most efficient on-board ballast water treatment performance for his ship, GEA Westfalia Separator Group supplies two versions of Westfalia Separator® BallastMaster: the electrolysis-based ”ecoP“ variant and the ”ultraV“ variant which uses UV-C radiation and ultrasonic. Both versions are perfect, both for building new ships and for retrofit application.

In refineries all kinds of waste oils are produced – so-called slop oils. They come from drainages, residues and cleaning processes, especially cleaning oil tank bottoms. Most of these slop oils contain a high percentage of oil which can be mixed with crude oil to be processed in the refinery.

Separators and decanters have been the main machines in the manufacture of beer for decades. In the decisive steps of the process, they ensure economical operation and a high quality of beer. The separators and decanters specifically developed for treating fermentation products are being used for concentrating, extracting and washing the algae. The centrifuges are suitable for plants producing algae in open ponds and also for closed systems using photobioreactors, where improved light conditions and reduced risk of contamination are advantages over open ponds. For the concentration process there are separators of various models to choose from, each with its individual advantages according to algae type and cultivation conditions.

Which separator and which processing material provide the best possible performance in any particular case depends not just on the capacities to be handled, but also on numerous other factors such as the product’s viscosity, the solids content, the pH value in the fermentation broth or the particular cell structure. Corrosion-resistant high-alloy special steels are used to meet the special requirements of salt algae fully.
