Protein Hydrolyzate

Protein meal is one of the special valuable materials which can now be obtained from animal by-products. It can above all be a lucrative business as a high-quality protein, which is why GEA Westfalia Separator was quick to develop a process allowing protein concentrate to be produced economically. The obtaining of highly soluble and low-fat protein hydrolyzates is especially innovative in this connection.

Protein hydrolyzates can be used as valuable food additives, as nutritional feed in aquacultures or as a plant fertilizer. Their value is significantly higher than with conventional protein meal. GEA Westfalia Separator has developed a continuous process for obtaining protein hydrolyzate.

Obtaining protein hydrolyzate

Proteins in the raw materials are released and hydrolyzed with the aid of water and enzymes. Following hydrolysis, the suspension passes to a 3-phase decanter which separates the flow into a fat phase, solids and the hydrolyzate phase with water-soluble proteins. A separator then clarifies and defats the protein hydrolyzate. Special polishing separators are used to polish the fat from the 3-phase decanter.
