Drinking water recovery and waste water treatment

GEA Westfalia Separator is one of the leading and most innovative manufacturers of decanter centrifuges for municipalities and industry in the world. The company owes its success to sustainable customer benefit through first-class engineering. More than 3500 installations of every performance class are responsible for worldwide improvement of recovering drinking water, processing waste water, dewatering and thickening of sewage sludge as well as the recovery of valuable substances from production streams.

The stationary and mobile installations manufactured by GEA Westfalia Separator permit process-integrated environmental protection that is particularly in demand in industry. They cover the entire performance range of small, mid-size and large volume streams cost-effectively while enhancing performance and reducing costs.

The following are some examples for the implementation of management and environment-relevant parameters in new developments that meet the needs of the market:

  • The Westfalia Separator® sludgeforce, the new decanter generation for treating water and waste water. The prime achievement is a significant reduction in energy consumption. With a specific energy consumption of just 0.7 kWh per cubic metre, GEA Westfalia Separator Group is the absolute leader in the market. The flocculent requirement likewise drops significantly which is equivalent to 25 percent in terms of operating costs for polymer consumption. The entire series is largely standardized: the design, the functional principle, the connections, the operating mode as well as the drive concept. All models will in future feature the unique Westfalia Separator® summationdrive, a high-torque drive which reliably provides the optimum differential speed for the process.

  • High scroll torques for optimum dewatering; these remain constant even at high differential speeds. Despite the high throughput capacity and the sharply increased torque, the specific energy requirement is lower than 1 kW/m³.

  • Westfalia Separator® varipond®, a patented method that permits the pond depth of decanters to be automatically regulated while the machine is still running. In this way, the concentration of the thickened solids can be adjusted to a constant level and maintained precisely at this level even when there are strong fluctuations in the feed concentration. With high throughput capacities and maintenance-free operation, simple retrofitting with Westfalia Separator® varipond® can achieve energy savings of up to 30 percent and permits thickening without polymers.

  • Fully automated MBR decanters with capacities of 1 to 350 m³/h, designed for continuous dewatering of very homogeneous fine sludge from membrane bioreactors. The integration of this technology in membrane filtration results in a sustainable solution to the problem of surplus activated sludge in waste water treatment.

  • Mobile installations in semi-trailers, trailers and containers completely fitted with all pipework, automated and set up for use immediately on site
