Sludge Treatment for Gas Turbines
and Diesel Engines

In addition to the treatment of fuel and lube oils, GEA Westfalia Separator Group has also solved the problem of disposing of sludges containing oil in power stations.

Advantages for power station operators and the environment

Whilst the sensitive ecosystem is protected by appropriate treatment of the sludges, such treatment also enables power station operators not only to reduce their disposal costs, but also to improve the bottom line still further by recovering valuable oil.

2.5 percent of oil in the sludges

Sludges contaminated with oil residues accumulate in every power station. These oil residues still constitute about 2.5 percent of total oil consumption of the power stations. Operators face a choice of either incinerating these oil-containing sludges or temporarily storing them and then disposing of them. Both variants involve considerable expense.

Treatment using separators - cheap and kind to the environment

An alternative which is as cheap as it is kind to the environment is treatment using separators. GEA Westfalia Separator Group systems are capable of reducing sludge volume by up to 90 percent. At the same time, treatment has the advantage that the recovered oil is used as a valuable fuel for operating the power station.
